I really like animal prints. I don’t like wearing animals (definitely not fur, but not even leather). However, I feel like animal prints are an homage to the animals rather than a simulation of wearing the real thing. I appreciate flowers, so I wear florals. I look at animal prints the same way.
My Oma was a very fashionable woman and wore a lot of animal prints. For me, leopard, zebra and cheetah prints have a vintage-y 50s and 60s feel and remind me of her.
Until recently, I’ve had animal print accessories: ballet flats, a belt, even a shirt. Then I found this dress.
Dress: Marshall’s
Cardigan: Nordstrom
Belt: Express
Shoes: Aerosoles
It’s a simple knit shirt dress and it’s really comfortable. I like its blue-gray color and how I can play with colorful accessories. I plan to wear this with purple shoes and a yellow belt (as soon as I find a yellow belt). I want to try it with red shoes too, or a red belt and black shoes.
Do you do animal prints? What’s your favorite piece?
Red shoes, yellow shoes, purple shoes….I think they would all rock! I LOVE the yellow though. Always a favorite! 🙂 The red belt is the perfect accessory too!
I love the use of colour here, yellow would work so well. I have no animal print in my wardrobe at all but I did try on some leopard print ballet pumps recently, so I’m heading in the right direction 🙂
Love that dress! It’s perfect with the purple cardi!
Oma would love it!!! I do, too!! The skinny red belt looks great with this dress. Animals have the right idea – they wear patterns that never go out of style and are not boring, designs from thousands of years ago and are always in fashion!
I have a gray and white leopard print cardigan and always get compliments when I wear it.
Let’s get inspired by animals and copy them, but not wear them!
Thanks for the comments. A cardi or ballet flats are great ways to dabble in animal prints without going over the top. @Hazel, I hope you try it 🙂
Love this dress! Shirt dresses are probably one of my top favorite styles – add in animal print and I am SO on board! It makes for a classic yet really fun look.
LOVE these shoes!
I love animal prints. Leopard is easily a favorite, and your dress is a great piece. The neutral color pallet opens up so many possibilities!
I love animal prints! Leopard is definitely my fave 🙂 Great look!

Thanks everyone! Can you believe this is my first shirt dress ever? didn’t think they’d be flattering but the knit makes this fit nicely – and it’s so comfortable. I’m a convert now!
Jean! This has got to be one of my favorite looks on you. So chic – and I love the bit of color. Perfecto!
Thanks! I’m glad I branched out and tried it.
