Two of a Kind: Matching Pink Tops

When I was a kid, my mom would dress me in outfits that matched hers. I was her Mini Me. Well, I’ve since developed my own sense of style and prefer a unique look, but we do still like some of the same things. So when my aunt sent us a care package all the way from Germany, you can imagine my mom’s delight when she saw two matching tops.

Tops: Clockhouse via gifted
Bottoms: Thrifted
Shoes: Target and Old Navy
Cuffs: Wrecords by Monkey

My mom brought the tops to New York and we had an impromptu photo shoot. Thanks to my Tante Marion for the pretty tops! She always manages to find things that I really like!

I paired my top with dark denim Bermuda shorts. They were perfect for my trip and went with the flats and wedges I’d packed.

My mom wore her top with lighter denim capris. We both have on metallic ballet flats. Hers are pewter; mine are gold.

We even have coordinating cuffs. When we were at the Brooklyn flea market, we met a local designer who was selling bracelets made from upcycled records. My mom’s has a peach-colored NYC skyline on hers. I went a little grittier and chose one with pigeons, rats, coffee cups and trash bags. I like to keep it real!

After the shoot, I changed into a different outfit. Don’t get me wrong–I love the top, with its Grecian styling. I just don’t want to match anyone else! We went to Harlem Tavern and treated our photographer (aka my dad) to a delicious peach hefewiesen and sweet potato fries.

Do you prefer a unique look or do you sometimes coordinate with a sister, spouse or friend?

I’ve joined Style Elixir for a group link-up. See what everyone else is wearing!

  1. You two are so beautiful! I never try to coordinate with people, but sometimes my teaching partners and I end up in similar outfits or color schemes! When my husband and I go out, we just try to make sure we’re not clashing or wearing two different kinds of red plaid or something!

    • Aw, thank you! My husband and I do the same thing as you two. We try not to clash 🙂 Once, when my husband’s tie matched my dress, someone asked us if we had just come from church (better than prom, I guess)!

  2. You are both very interesting. I do not leave home dressed like my dad :). Give Carmen’s top to him! You’re more attractive with your beautiful dresses. I am a fan of Carmen, I can not help it.

    • Thanks for your comment, Josep! It’s funny, but I don’t know any guys who dress alike. I like dresses too and that’s why this top was so interesting. It has a nice shape, and if it were longer, would make a lovely dress.

      • I love this shade of pink–a very pale dusty rose and the fabric is so soft and drapes beautifully, it would make a lovely dress, as you said Jean.

        Re: men dressing alike:
Most men dress the same at weddings – black suits and white shirts 😉
I see many men and boys dressed alike – blue jeans!!! 😀

  3. I love your style!! I always wanted to have a twin sister so we could dress the same. My mom and I had several matching outfits.

When I buy clothes or jewelry that you have it’s not necessarily to dress the same, but I honestly love your style, you have great taste!!

I’m sure Marion will be happy to see us in these tops (especially since she sent them last summer and I just gave it to you now!).

Love these cool record cuffs! So glad we bought them! We picked a perfect backdrop for this photoshoot and our photographer is so patient and all he asks for is a glass of beer. 😉

    I ❤ NY

    • Thanks 🙂 I like your style too. Don’t forget, I copied you last week when I went back to Bebenoir to buy the exact top and pants you bought earlier. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

What a fun photo shoot on the steps of the beautiful brownstone building! I always wanted a twin sister! My mom and I had a several matching outfits. Jean has great style and we have a few outfits that are the same. I’m glad she complied to wearing our tops at the same time because she prefers to be unique–can’t blame her for changing right after this photo shoot before heading for the Harlem Tavern! 😉

  5. Bob

Janet and I generally wear the same basic colours, generally not matching clothes, to a function so as to not clash.
Some men wear black shirt or white shirt and black pants which will function with most any colour his lady chooses to wear

Thanks again for sharing your so many talents with us readers who follow both of your blogs.

  7. You guys look so cute! And I’m with you – I like a unique look. My mom, sister and I have very different tastes! Hope you and your mom had fun in New York! Celeste 🙂

  8. Very cute looks! Like you, I prefer to look unique. Those as a child, I always wanted to match my mom!
