One of the best ways to dress down an outfit is to throw on a denim jacket. Denim has a devil-may-care attitude, especially when paired with a dress.
Dress: Ross Dress for Less
Scarf: Street vendor in Toronto
I dressed down this leopard-print dress with a denim jacket, and I took is a couple of steps further. I added purple tights and a robin’s egg blue scarf. Flat knee-high boots added to the relaxed feel.
Now the dress that was office or dinner wear is ready for a casual lunch with friends. I happened to run errands in this outfit and was comfortable and stylish. Plus, the extra layers kept me warm!
Do you have favorite ways to dress down an outfit?
I’ve joined Visible Monday and Monday Bloom today. Have a look at what others are wearing!

What a fun look! I’ll try it–I have a leopard dress and purple tights. I also have a denim shirt that I wear as a jacket so I’ll see how it looks together!
Have a great week! ❤
I’d like to see how you style your leopard and purple look! Thanks for commenting! Have a great week too!
I like it that you pair the dress with casual denim and tall boots.. nice!

Hi there! Being a denim addict, I love your look-denim goes with anything and always looks stylish! Have a great week!
Great look. I think I need a denim jacket. I haven’t had one since I was a teenager, but I see lots of ways to wear it.
Me too! I love wearing my denim jacket over a dress. You look fabulous in this combo and thanks for sharing with Visible Monday.
love it! i love denim jackets over dresses, and those purple tights are a must have. you look polished and adorable!
Quite right … put some denim with it! Boots, booties, tights, guy-belts, etc.
I’m thinking a lot about doing just this dress-down thing right now. The ultimate shop-your-closet project!
a big belt would be a good accessory too. And booties would be a nice change. I’m trying to shop my closet more and wear things I tend to forget about.
This is a great “casual” look- because it’s mobile you can take it day to night- or from work to after work happy hour and home again. Meeeeow! That’s a happy vegan-friendly mew!
I like your vegan-friendly mew 😉
You make a good point. Remove the jacket, change out the shoes, and this goes from casual to dressy! I like that.
Jean, hi! I am finally commenting on your blog instead of IG. hahahaha
Don’t you just love the ease of not wearing bulky warm clothes in the PNW area? The entire 4 yrs I live there I only had a sweater coat that I wore in the deepest of winter. But I love my 4 seasons in Utah. Nice to see you here.
Ha ha! I appreciate it. sometimes I just want like buttons or ❤ icons everywhere. I even look for them in email–easier than replying!
I do love the PNW in that I don't need bulky coats. I just bought a true winter coat because I never know where I might travel. But I was shocked at how warm it is! Then I remembered winter in Toronto. I hope to see Utah soon, but probably not in winter.
