I don’t think of myself as an overly sentimental person–but I can’t let go of this dress.
Dress: Target
Jacket: Swapped
Bracelet: Shop in Honolulu
Boots: Urban Outfitters
I bought it about 12 years ago. It’s hardly new. And there’s nothing special about it–except that 10 years ago I wore it on my first date with my now-husband.
I don’t wear it often, but it has such good memories. It used to have sleeves, but I cut them off. Now, if it’s cool, I throw on a cardigan or jacket.
These days, in the Seattle heat wave, that’s not an issue.
I recently wore this dress again when hubby and I went back to the place for our first lunch date: Araya’s Vegetarian Place. Araya’s has moved three times and added three more locations, but they’re still going strong. Just like Mr. Jean of all Trades and me!
If you’re in the Seattle area (or LA!) check out Araya’s.
I’ve joined Visible Monday for a blogger linkup. See what all the others are wearing!
Congratulations on ten years together. Such a pretty dress to remember a first date! Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday, xo.
Thank you, Patti! It’s flown by!
Congrats, I also wrote about my 13th Anniversary today. I really like the pattern on your dress, and the light sundress look is just perfect for these hot days

What a neat coincidence! I checked out your post and love your outfit. I enjoyed reading your “how we met” story too! Happy anniversary!
Thanks Jean! I do miss rock climbing!! Have a great week, jess xx
Oh, lovely! What a great thing that after 10 years it still looks fabulous on you! Congrats on a fabulous decade of marriage and I wish you many more to come.
(Killer with those extremely cool booties … I’m guessing they are somewhat newer?)
Thank you! You’re right about the booties. They’re newer (still about 5 years old though). I don’t think I would have thought to wear booties with a sundress in 2004. Back then, I wore sandals. I like the edginess too 🙂
I love the paisley print and I’m so glad you have a sentimental spot in your closet. What a good idea to cut off the sleeves making it perfect for hot summer days and wearing a cardigan, jacket or shrug if needed. Wish I could wear booties with a sundress but with my slim legs I’d look like Olive Oyl.
Happy Ten-years-together! ❤
Yes, I must have learned to be sentimental about clothes from you! I like your Olive Oyl comment. You make a good point: booties and bare legs are a great way to make legs look slimmer. Of course, you don’t want that, but for those who do… 🙂
