Part of my role as Jean of all Trades is to dabble in lots of things. I write, paint and blog. I’ve been a roller girl and a sport bike rider. I’ve worked as a dog walker, retail manager, and ESL teacher.
Over Thanksgiving, I decided to open an online sock shop. as you can see from many of my style posts, I like colorful tights and fun socks. They’re an inexpensive way to change the look of an outfit. My goal was to source a few suppliers, get a bit of inventory, buy a business license, build a website, and open shop. I gave myself until 2012 to get it all done.
I’m happy to say, I’m ready! Sockadilly.com is open for business. Update: I had fun with my ecommerce adventure but I realize what a lot of work it is. I shut down the site in Summer 2012 but will continue to blog and show you lots of fun sock styles.
In a way, I feel like I’ve come full circle. In high school I worked part-time as a retail sales associate in a hosiery shop. We sold socks, tights, pantyhose and stockings. We also carried swimsuits and exercise wear. I enjoyed that job and my first foray into the business of fashion.
Fast forward to the 21st Century and I have a new avenue for selling merchandise: the web. I’d never dreamed of such a thing back in the 80s. We had no email, web address, Twitter or Facebook accounts–not even a cell phone. Yet the store did well. So let’s see what I can make of my virtual shop.
I’m still adding inventory and I’d love to hear your ideas about what you’d like to see in the store.
