Part of my role as Jean of all Trades is to dabble in lots of things. I write, paint and blog. I’ve been a roller girl and a sport bike rider. I’ve worked as a dog walker, retail manager, and ESL teacher.
Over Thanksgiving, I decided to open an online sock shop. as you can see from many of my style posts, I like colorful tights and fun socks. They’re an inexpensive way to change the look of an outfit. My goal was to source a few suppliers, get a bit of inventory, buy a business license, build a website, and open shop. I gave myself until 2012 to get it all done.
I’m happy to say, I’m ready! Sockadilly.com is open for business. Update: I had fun with my ecommerce adventure but I realize what a lot of work it is. I shut down the site in Summer 2012 but will continue to blog and show you lots of fun sock styles.
In a way, I feel like I’ve come full circle. In high school I worked part-time as a retail sales associate in a hosiery shop. We sold socks, tights, pantyhose and stockings. We also carried swimsuits and exercise wear. I enjoyed that job and my first foray into the business of fashion.
Fast forward to the 21st Century and I have a new avenue for selling merchandise: the web. I’d never dreamed of such a thing back in the 80s. We had no email, web address, Twitter or Facebook accounts–not even a cell phone. Yet the store did well. So let’s see what I can make of my virtual shop.
I’m still adding inventory and I’d love to hear your ideas about what you’d like to see in the store.
Congrats Jeanie! Wishing you lots of success!!! Have any tights in xtra tall for these long legs of mine??? 🙂
Thanks! I will definitely carry extra tall tights! I have lots of tall friends, so don’t worry! I don’t have them yet, but I will (tall knee socks too for that matter).
Awesome. I love those polka-dot knee socks.
Thank you! I like them too 🙂 The bonus is that I get to keep the socks I model for the site. Besides, it’s good to product test!
I hope to have lots of more fun socks soon.
Looks great!
I’ll put my order in soon!
Thanks! 🙂 I’m glad you like the site.
Thanks for the nice comment 😀
Also, YAY! Congrats….how cool is your shop!?!?!!
Here’s to a great 2012!

Thanks Lizzie! I’m glad you like the shop. Lots more to come. Happy New Year to you too!
Congratulations on your new adventure!! This is amazing and very exciting. You are probably the most awesome gal I know.
You’re so sweet 🙂 Thanks for your support. It’s a fun project and I’m excited to see where it takes me.
Thanks for your support!! I get it…support hose! You gotta sell support hosiery Ha!
Jean, you are so very mult-facetted! Go Jean Go!
Congratulations! I’m looking forward to ordering soon! Any chance you might someday add small-size socks? I wear size 5 shoes, so all my super-cute socks have the heel hitting way up on my ankle. 😦 I’ve seen small socks at Wal-Mart but they only come in gym varieties. I’d love to have some nice knee socks (or over-the-knee) that actually fit!
Thanks! You might actually be able to fit the small tights I have in stock. None of my tall friends can 😦 But I’m ordering tall sizes soon.
I can defintely look for small socks. Send me an email with colors and styles you’re interested in and I’ll try to help out!
